What Type of Tiles
It is important to know what type of tiles are suitable to use in your tiling project. Tiles are made of many different materials; ceramics, porcelain, stones and glass. All these materials have different characteristics and knowing what features a particular tile has is the key to choosing the right product for you. All the floor tiles are totally unaffected by floods and are perfect for use in bathrooms or buildings that are subject to flooding.
Ceramic Tiles
Historically these have been the main type of tile available and are used both on the wall and floor. They are not generally suitable for outdoor use due to the change in temperatures from season to season. However the glaze used on the top surface makes it ideal for use in kitchens and bathrooms as it prevent moisture penetration when the right grouts and adhesives are used. Natural Stone Wall Tile
Is a collective term for a large variety of product including travertine, marble, granite, limestone, tumbled marble. As they are "natural" products they are often very hard-wearing (and to cut!) However they can also be porous and require treating or sealing before use.
Porcelain Floor Tile
Generally harder wearing than ceramic and virtually impervious to water, making them frost resistant. Porcelain tiles are used either for indoor or outdoor applications, on walls and floors. Often manufactured in larger sizes than ceramic.
